This section describes the functionality of the router simulator module. Screen-shot of the Router Simulator is given below:
1. Open Exported File:

Use this button for opening the Exported File from the Designer.
On clicking this button you get a dialogue box from which you have to select the Exported File.
The figure below shows the dialogue box for opening an Exported File.
2. Save Configuration:

"Save Config" button is used for saving the network configuration for
later use.
On selecting this button, you will be prompted for a filename under which the current
configuration of the network has to be saved.
By default this file is stored under "User" directory.
The figure below shows the dialogue box used for saving the current Configuration.

3. Device Console:
A screenshot of the simulated device console is given below.
Device console is used for entering the commands. Initially the Simulator is loaded with
the default network. To load a network configuration designed with network
designer, open the exported file by clicking "Open Exported File"
button. Once you open an exported file, the network diagram is loaded into the
simulator and can be viewed using "Network Diagram" button. By
default, first router in the list of devices is selected. You can always change
the selected device by going to the network, and selecting a different device.
Then Start the console by giving a "carriage return". To begin with, a user prompt
is displayed. You can use appropriate commands to practice as given in the supported commands
4. Load Config:

Load Config button is used to open the saved Configuration file. Note that this
is a configuration file that was saved earlier using Network Simulator.
Below figure shows the dialogue box for opening the Existing Configuration File.
5. Network Diagram:

Clicking the N/W Diagram button displays the network diagram you are currently working on.
Note:Initially the Simulator is loaded with a default network. You have the option to work
with another network by using "Open Exported File" as described earlier.Below figure
shows the network diagram screen when the simulator is started without any network in it.
Below figure shows the Network diagram screen either after opening the Exported
Network or after Loading the previously Saved Network using Save Config
To select a Device click on the device list drop down box and select a Device.
After selecting click on "Select & Exit" command button.
6. Supported Commands:

Clicking this button gives router commands that are supported at this time. Please note that the
commands provided here can only be supported by the Router Simulator. If you type any other
command, "Command Not Known" response will be displayed.
7. Exit:

Clicking this Button moves control to the main Screen.
